The past 20 years have seen the development of Nanomedicine, that is the application of nano-sized synthetic engineered objects, characterized by novel unique properties resulting from their dimensions, to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of pathological conditions, and to increase the understanding of the complex pathophysiology underlying some diseases. This has involved the convergence of many scientific disciplines to design, manufacture and apply nano-sized therapeutics, imaging agents, theranostics and nanomaterials for tissue repairing.
The ultimate goal of scientists engaged in Nanomedicine is to improve the quality-of-life, which entails the huge responsibility of searching and offering new opportunities to human health while avoiding the arising of false hopes and illusions. Scientific meetings that gather together Nanomedicine researchers from different disciplines represent fundamental moments to face and debate objectively discoveries and innovations in the field.
The Department of Technology and Health of Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) and the Institute of Chemical Methodologies of Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), both involved in Nanomedicine research, organized in Rome in 2011 and 2012 the first and second editions of an international conference on Nanomedicine.
This year the third edition of the conference will be held in Viterbo where the University of La Tuscia nicely offered us to host this event. Yechezkel Barenholz (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem), a pioneer of Nanomedicine, and Alberto Diaspro (Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia), an authority in super resolution optical microscopy and nanoscopy, will chair the edition with Agnese Molinari (ISS) and Giovanna Mancini (CNR), who chaired the previous editions.
In September we expect you numerous in Viterbo to discuss the latest achievements in Nanomedicine concerning diagnosis, therapy, theranostics, medical devices, nanomaterials for tissue repairing, other related topics, and nanoscopy, one of the most important tools to investigate nano-sized synthetic materials and their interactions with biological systems.
September is a nice season in Viterbo and participating in the conference will give you the opportunity to enjoy this medieval town and its nice surroundings.
